ONTARIO BIGFOOT — HISTORICAL SIGHTING REPORT
A Frightening Encounter on a Back Road
Sometime during the late 1970s or early 1980s, a woman named Marlene reportedly experienced a terrifying encounter while driving along Whiskey Jack Drive, a dirt road in the Garden River area east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
According to the account, Marlene was travelling with two of her sons seated in the back of her vehicle when a large, unidentified creature, described as a Sasquatch, suddenly emerged from a nearby creek.
The creature reportedly began chasing her vehicle.
As Marlene accelerated away, she glanced into her rearview mirror and saw the figure pursuing her with its arms extended outward. The creature allegedly continued chasing the vehicle as she made her way onto Highway 17 East in Garden River.
Marlene eventually reached home safely and told her husband what had happened.
Police Reportedly Investigated the Scene
Following the incident, Marlene and her husband reportedly contacted the police. Officers attended their home and took a statement concerning the unusual encounter.
According to the information provided, police returned to the area the following day to investigate.
During their examination of the location, officers reportedly discovered large footprints believed to have been left by the creature. The account further states that plaster casts were made of these impressions.
If confirmed, the existence of police records or surviving plaster casts could provide valuable historical documentation of this incident.
At present, Ontario Bigfoot has not independently verified the reported police investigation or the existence of the footprint casts.
A Second Encounter Near a Chicken Coop
The account also describes another unusual incident involving a resident named Peter, who lived in the Garden River area along Jordan Mine Road.
It is believed by the person reporting these events that the creature seen chasing Marlene may have travelled through the surrounding bush and eventually reached Peter's property.
According to the story, Peter had a chicken coop in his yard. One day, he heard a disturbance coming from the chickens while he was inside his house.
Concerned about what might be attacking his birds, Peter reportedly grabbed his firearm and went outside to investigate.
Upon reaching the chicken coop, he allegedly encountered a large creature described as a Sasquatch.
Peter reportedly fired his gun at the creature. The account does not establish whether the animal was struck or what happened immediately afterward.
The individual who supplied this report states that a younger Peter personally related the story of the chicken coop encounter to them.
Although the two incidents are suspected to be connected, there is currently no evidence establishing that the same creature was involved.
Ontario Bigfoot Research Notes
These accounts are particularly interesting because they describe two separate alleged encounters within the Garden River area, along with a reported police investigation and the collection of physical evidence.
Several details warrant further examination:
The approximate dates of both encounters and whether they occurred close together.
The reported police response, including whether an incident report was filed.
The alleged plaster footprint casts and whether they still exist.
The precise location of the encounter along Whiskey Jack Drive.
Any surviving eyewitness testimony from Marlene, her sons or members of Peter's family.
It is important to emphasize that these events have been documented here as historical witness accounts. The details have not yet been independently verified.
Nevertheless, the reported police involvement and possible footprint evidence make the Whiskey Jack Drive incident worthy of further research.
Preserving Ontario's Sasquatch History
Stories like these can remain within families and small communities for decades before reaching researchers. As time passes, witnesses move away, memories fade and potentially valuable evidence can be lost.
Ontario Bigfoot appreciates the individual who came forward with this information and helped bring these historical accounts to our attention.
We would welcome the opportunity to hear from anyone with firsthand knowledge of either incident, particularly those who remember the reported police investigation or know what became of the plaster casts.
